Gwendolyn Scotton Bethea, Ph.D.
Gwendolyn Scotton Bethea is the founder of Scotton Communications Network, an organization that specializes in editing, writing, and public relations. She is also founder/president of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Speakers Bureau and Research Magazine. She formerly served as editor/writer and communications specialist of the Howard University Graduate School Research Magazine and the manager of the Speakers Bureau of Howard University. She is also the former director of the Howard University Graduate School’s Communications and Expository Writing Programs and the former director of the Preparing Future Faculty (PFF) Program for the Howard University Graduate School, Washington, DC. During her tenure as director of the Communications and Expository Writing Programs, she oversaw the entry writing examinations for all enrolled graduate students, She also edited doctoral dissertations, recruitment publications, and websites. As director of the PFF program, she directed seminars, workshops and pre-faculty internships for doctoral students planning to enter the professoriate at partner institutions ranging from community colleges to research intensive universities. She also spearheaded new partnerships to enhance the international scope of pre-faculty opportunities, including with Abu Dhabi University.
She has directed marketing campaigns for National YWCA Outreach Programs; Howard University’s National Affirmative Action Symposium; Slavery: A Comparative Interdisciplinary Exploration; Bioterrorism in America; and Global Access to Higher Education for People of Color, among other events.
The editor of books and articles focusing on social and economic disparities, as well as autobiographies, she is also active in community activities with educational, service, and civil rights organizations. She has served on the boards of Origins Marketing Sports Management Company, the Maryland Christian Community Development Association, the YWCA of the National Capital Area, the Washington DC Health Task Force for D.C. Public Schools, and the African American Health Task Force Communications Network.
She was a member of the Board of Advisors for Discover.com and a former member of the Board of Advisors for Aumazo, Inc., an organization that is building a school for girls in the Cameroon. Dr. Bethea holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Howard University, a Master of Arts in Print Communications from American University, and a Ph.D. in Mass Communication and Media Studies from Howard University. She is currently working on her own autobiography, Memories: The True Story of an African American Family. Edited books include From West Virginia to the Nation’s Capital, One Doctor’s Story; Women’s Health, What Do you know About it; My Spiritual Journey to Universal Consciousness; They Used to Call Me “Brother,” by Hank Wall; and Prepared from the Heart by Catherine Blacknall. Gail S. Baylor, Esq.
Gail S. Baylor practices law in Stone Mountain, GA. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism/TV/Film and Juris Doctorate degrees from Howard University. She is expected to receive her MDiv degree from Columbia Theological Seminary in 2021. Her current practice areas are Wills and Probate, Uncontested Family Law matters, Adoptions, and Car Accidents.
Zenobia D. Bailey, MA.
Zenobia D. Bailey is an Integrated Wellness Coach. A Howard University alumna, she is a former public relations professional at the University of the District of Columbia, and a former professor at the University of Maryland. She is a resident health expert for the HBCU Speakers Bureau and Research Magazine.
Zenobia has achieved Public Relations accreditation, and has been practicing for 12 years in hospitals, associations, chambers of commerce, and in the field of education. Jacquelynn V. Thompson, Howard University alumna, is an Educational Consultant originally from Buffalo, New York. She is a former public relations and alumni professional at the University of the District of Columbia. She is currently working on an article on gentrification and she recently completed an article on the nationally-focused Georgia Senate race, which appeared in HBCU Research Magazine. In her spare time, she is a visual artist.
